Scientific research on a range of spiritual practices has shown that, on average, they make people happier and healthier, as Rupert Sheldrake shows in his recent book WAYS TO GO BEYOND AND WHY THEY WORK. He will summarise some of its principal themes and discuss several practices including fasting, spiritual openings through psychedelics, and the differing but complementary effects of meditation and petitionary prayer. Jill Purce, his wife, who has been teaching the voice as a transformative practice for many years in her Healing Voice workshops, will show how chanting and singing can bring us into greater resonance with our own minds, bodies and social groups, and through mantras connect us with a long tradition of the attainment of other practitioners. Rupert will explain how his hypothesis of morphic resonance relates to the power of chant and to the power of rituals. One practice on which morphic resonance sheds a new light is the healing of trans- generational family patterns which Jill has been teaching as family constellations for 25 years with many thousands of people. She will talk about about this practice of family and ancestral healing and how it works. This will be a live workshop, with opportunities for questions and answers.
